Only current Michigan Law students, faculty, and staff may check out books to take out of the Underground Library. Loan limits for Law Library materials vary depending on the item, the patron, and the time of year. For loan questions about a specific book, please reach out to askalawlibrarian@umich.edu.

The times listed here apply to current MLaw students, and are subject to change.

  • Closed Reserve materials may be checked out for 2 hours during (roughly) the first and last two weeks of each term. For the remainder of the term, they may be checked out for 4 hours.
  • Most monographs in our open stacks may be checked out for one month.
  • Gadgets and equipment may be checked out for 24 hours, except for Varidesks and noise-cancelling headphones, which have 4 hour loan limits.
