If you are an undergraduate UM student trying to gain access to the Reading Room between the hours of 7PM and Midnight, you must use the door that leads directly into the Reading Room from the wheelchair accessible ramp on the Monroe Street side of the building.  The ramp is to the right of the loading dock when you are facing the Legal Research building from Monroe Street and is directly next to the sunken light well that looks down into the underground Law Library.

(The door to the left of the loading dock also has a card reader, but this door leads directly into the Aikens Commons, which is restricted to Law Students.)

If you have tried to enter through the correct door and are still having problems, please contact Lois Harden (
