The Law Library's Reading Room contains stained glass windows that highlight the seals of various Law Schools throughout the United States and internationally.

The stained glass windows are featured in a story in the Fall 1931 edition of The Michigan Alumnus, available online for UMich users through HathiTrust.

Interactive maps are available in the University of Michigan Law School Reading Room Seals Map LibGuide. The school names linked on that page take you to high resolution full size images also available in the University of Michigan Law School Scholarship Repository

  1. I am curious what schools are missing from the seals that were present in the original design and construction. Our tour guide said there were some schools that got taken down due to vandalism by students. I would love to know who those schools were and why there was such strong negative feelings against them.

  2. Thank you for your interest in our Reading Room. While there has been the occasional broken window, all of the original seals are currently still in place. This is especially evident in the continued existence of the seals of OSU and MSU (fka MSC).
