MLaw students and faculty can check out books from the Law Library. However, most books are available for use in the Smith Underground Library only.

Books that are checked out can be kept on the student's carrel shelf or on the hold shelf at the Information Desk until their due date. (Note: books from Closed Reserve may only be checked out for a maximum of 4 hours during the regular semester, and 2 hours during the first two weeks of any semester or during study days and exams.)

Michigan Law Students may request the use of a carrel shelf for the semester by filling out our Carrel Request Form. Once submitted, our team will assign you a carrel shelf and contact you to let you know it has been assigned (this usually takes 1-2 business days). After your carrel is assigned, any book you request will be delivered to that carrel for your use until its due date.
