For a brief visit (less than 10 minutes) to the Smith Underground Library without a legal research need, patrons may pick up a visitor's pass from the entrance station attendant. All visitors must present ID at the entrance station. Visitors may not study or use the collection, and may only look around for a short time.

Visitors may drop by the Reading Room between 8:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. The Reading Room is an important study area for Michigan students. All visitors are asked to observe the rules of silence and no flash photography. Professional photography is forbidden in the Reading Room.
